Happy bday, Big Bird and W&G

Hmmm so I was offered an extension on my job. But I'm kinda not very enthused to take it, although I probably should because I have nothing better to do anyway and the parents are getting on my nerves already. Thus the less time spent at home the better.

But it is 8-5pm. Everyday. hmmmm what a dilemma

Well, I was going to write about my weekend filled with pictures. But since my internet is down, pictures will have to wait until tomorrow.

But before I go into the fun stuff, I just have to record yesterday's craziness first. I loved my Delta airline flight, but seating next to a baby was just not ideal. Since it was a screamer. For the first three hours or so. So I had NO sleep and sung hallelujah to self when we landed in LA so I could head home and finally get some SLEEP. But along the way, dad felt sick and we had to make some stops til we got home. A bad omen then. So we got home and I ran into the shower so I can SLEEP when my mom yelled at me to hurry cause we had to get dad to the ER. I guessd this was serious business so I got my ass out of the shower and went to the ER half asleep. And it was kind of ridiculous. The nurses asked ME what was the matter, instead of my dad. Apparently, my red eyes from lack of sleep and messy wet hair from shower and disheveled cloths from the rush made me look worse off than my dad--who was in severe pain. But they were helpful enough to take care of the problem and let us out in a couple of hours. All the while I was just thinking if I could sleep at the doctor's lounge or something. I was way too tired to worry about dad lol. It was 4am Eastern time by the time we got out of there. Naturally I couldn't get up this morning in time for work. Thanks to all the craziness from last night.

Ok, rant over, here comes the fun stuff.

Day 1 Thursday: After work, I did some final packing and checking in online before heading to the airport. I wore a sweater since it was going to be cold in NY, but when we landed for my connecting flight in Houston at 5:33am, it was 80 degrees and I thought I'd made a mistake. Fortunately(or unfortunately...) the sweater and giant coat saved my life as I stepped out into La Guardia. Even then, my delicate SoCal body shuddered against the cold and rain while waiting for the Carey bus to arrive. The bus was great, though, and amazingly fast in the rain. So  I ended up in Grand Central Station, where I waited for my friend to finish his midterm so I can head over and crash for the weekend. Bumming around the station was amazingly fun. There were free water from Italy, free espresso from the Venetto exhibit, tons of gift shops and eateries to browse . People watching was fun too. Then I moved into my friend's tiny pigeon hole apartment and went on a private school tour given by the awesome guy and friends. The day ends with me reviewing interview questions and my app in preparation for the next day...

Helloooo sweet Californian sun!! I never thought I'd miss you ;_;

So yes. I've just gotten back to LA, and it's been wonderful. Except a few strange twist of events...like spending the night at the ER right after I got out of the airport. When all I could do was barely stay awake, as it was already 4am Eastern time. It was a long day. More details to come later...with pictures from my weekend.

I believe there're three people at the office. Including myself. It's going to be a long day.

In other news, I got to see Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs yesterday! It was good. Much meatier and cheesier than I had expected, but also more clever than I had expected as well. No I've never read the book (is it that famous? oops!) but it doesn't seem like it's all that relevant to the original anyway? I might've been more disappointed if I'd been expecting the original too... So highlight of the movie? Pretty much all of the ginormous foods they've concocted. Jello palace looks delicious AND fun. It makes me want Jello trampoline, and scrunchy. And especially the cheeseburgers/free advertisement for our supper at In-N-Out after the movie. Hmm cheeseburgers.

All I need now is a Domo slurpee, and my life would be complete. If only I had the car for today, I'd be driving over to a neighboring 7-11 right now.

"When novelists or screenwriters want to telegraph that a character is boring or unimaginative, they often make him a dentist—in the Harry Potter series, for example, Hermione Granger's parents aren't just muggles, or nonmagical people; they're dentists. "

Maybe I should start a farm on facebook.

I just realized what's been bothering me for the past few weeks: my boss looks like Tamaki's dad.

Ugh.

Ok its a generic face. But it still bothers me. And I almost lol'ed at the meeting today when I became enlightened.

I just lunched on a full couse meal of CAKES. It seemed like such a good idea in the morning as I was packing lunch because --1. Clears all cake-making evidence in the kitchen before my parents return 2. Um, I love cake.

Now I know why mom says those cake buffets in Taiwan aren't for me. I'm feeling oozy just two pieces later. Good thing is that there's always coffee to wash it down. But there're also three more pieces left and so what the hell was I thinking

NOT MY CAKES! Just attached this here to make my post more visually stimulating.

Bah!

Does mouthwash kill taste buds?

I can't feel a thing during lunch. But spicy-sensors apparently are still intact. So it was a spicy yet bland meal--a pretty awful combination.

Please don't die, my beautiful taste buds. I have so many recipes I have yet to try ;_;

Although.....Perhaps this is the ultimate weight loss solution!!

Wish I was doing this type of research!

So since our lab is involved in genetic testing for mitochondrial diseases, our group spent a good 2+ hours on the new Nature article on transferred DNA rhesus monkeys (left early so not sure how long it actually lasted). I just can't get over how adorable these babies are.

Oh the things I would do to avoid studying.

Like, baking a cake:

French yogurt cake

Or two...

Japanese Cheesecake

And I blame this all on the two midterms this coming week...

It's the year of the ox...
